Anniversary Open Day September 2011

Big thank you to everyone who came along to the open day in September. There was a good turnout at Guildtown Garage on 3rd September as the garage celebrated its 60th year in business. The feedback was good, everyone seemed to have a great day out. Hard to think that the garage has been there since it was started by Alastair Reid in 1951.

Shortly after opening in 1951 Alastair was able to take on an apprentice, Jock Watson,  to help with the increasing workload, as vehicles became more popular. The garage continued to develop and in the 1990’s expanded into Perth with a site at St. Catherine's, that has subsequently moved to Whitefriars Street.

Today the garage is run by Sandy Reid with his wife Val. Sandy took over from his father around 20 years ago. Though there have been many changes over the years, the garage has maintained a strong customer base in Guildtown and the surrounding areas. Sandy and Val are supported by Mike and Douglas in the Guildtown Garage, in Perth the team consists of Stewart, Andrew and Steve. You can meet the team here.

The video below is was recorded during the aerobatic display

Integral to the celebrations on Saturday was a display of 15 cars covering the period 1951 to date. The collection, supplied by customers of the garage, included Ford Popular, Bentley, TVR, MGs, a Morgan  and many others. Following a tour of the cars and a generous helping of birthday cake, the invited customers were treated to an aerobatic display by Dai Heather-Hayes flying a Pitts Special S2A from Scone Aerodrome.

It was a good chance to say Thank You to all of our loyal customers and show our appreciation for your support over the years. It was good to see so many of you there from both Guildtown and Perth Garages, enjoying the afternoon and catching up with old friends.
We hope that the video and the pictures will help you remember the day. A day we will never forget.
